Director – Credit Risk Model Development (Mumbai)

Our client is a global leader in financial services, specializing in investment banking, investment management, wealth management, and hedge funds. They are seeking a Director to lead their Credit Risk Model Development team based in Mumbai.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Oversight: Lead and mentor a team of quantitative professionals, driving high-quality delivery across all credit risk model development activities.
  • Oversee and contribute hands-on to the development of Probability of Default (PD), Loss Given Default (LGD), and Exposure at Default (EAD) models aligned with Basel regulatory frameworks.
  • Develop and enhance models for Potential Future Exposure (PFE) and Credit Valuation Adjustment to assess and mitigate counterparty risks in derivatives and financing transactions.
  • Credit Stress Testing & Provisioning: Build forward-looking credit loss models to support CCAR, CECL, and IFRS 9 requirements—enabling robust stress testing, capital planning, and provisioning.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate closely with global risk, finance, and regulatory teams to ensure model alignment with business goals and regulatory expectations.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 15+ years of experience in credit risk management, risk analytics, or quantitative finance, with progressive leadership responsibilities and hands on with credit risk model development.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline such as Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven people management experience, leading large and diverse modeling teams.
  • Experience within a global financial institution in roles involving credit risk modeling or analytics.
  • Deep understanding of PD/LGD/EAD modeling, credit scoring, and portfolio risk management concepts.
  • Strong hands-on skills in Python for model development and analytics.
